How to use the checklist

Start with the essentials, then go through each group and cross off what you already have or have been promised. Leave the rest on: family like having a choice at different prices.

  • Essentials first: sleep, feeding, changing, the car seat
  • Cross off what’s handed down
  • Keep a mix of big and small things

It ticks itself off in the app

On a Wishorium baby list the checklist is in the Add tab. Tap a thing to search the shops for it, or tick “Don’t need”. Anything already on your list is ticked for you by its name, however it got there: searched for, pasted from any shop, imported from Amazon or typed by hand.

A second baby: what’s still worth asking for

Second time round, most of the big things are already in the loft. What usually still helps is what wears out, what was outgrown, and what you now need two of.

  • Things that wear out: bottles and teats, muslins, sleeping bags in the right tog
  • Two at once: a double or sibling pushchair, a second car seat or cot
  • Nappies and wipes, always
  • A small present “from the baby” for the big brother or sister

Check anything handed down

Hand-me-downs are lovely, but look carefully at car seats and cot mattresses, and check the current safe-sleep and car-seat advice where you live before reusing them. A new mattress and car seat are good things to put on the list.

Questions from grown-ups

Is this a registry or a wish list?

Both words mean the same here: a list of things you’d like, which friends and family can see and buy from. Ours isn’t tied to one shop, so you can add things from anywhere.

Can I tick off things I already have?

Yes. On your list’s Add tab, tick “Don’t need” on anything you’ve got, and it stops counting towards what’s left.

Will family buy the same thing twice?

No. Each thing can be circled once. Everyone else sees it’s taken, and you see who for the thank-you cards.

Is it free?

Yes. Some shop links are affiliate links, which pay us a small commission at no cost to you.

Ready when you are ✨

Free, five minutes to set up, and the family don’t need an app.
