Remember the gift, the giver and the thank-you

A circle on a wish list tells you somebody offered to buy a present. It does not tell you the parcel arrived. This free tracker helps you record real gifts, including off-list surprises, before labels and memories drift apart.

Record what actually arrived

Keep the tracker beside you while opening birthday, Christmas or baby gifts. Write a useful description and the giver’s name before putting the card or packaging aside. Add the received date, then leave “message written” and “sent” blank until you have actually done them.

Include presents that were never on the wish list, handmade items, cards and experiences. If several people gave one present, note their names together and decide whether they need one shared message or separate notes. You do not need addresses or anyone’s contact details on this sheet.

Handle mystery labels without guessing

If a parcel has no card, record the item and mark the giver as unknown. Ask privately: “We’ve received a lovely dinosaur book but the label was missing. Was it from you?” Keep it out of a public family post, where a wrong guess may embarrass somebody.

If an item is circled but has not arrived, leave “received” blank. Check with the giver if you need to arrange a delivery or date; avoid thanking them for receiving an item you have not seen. You can thank them for their thoughtfulness while you clarify the practical details.

Write one detail that belongs to this gift

A short note is enough. Name the gift when you are certain, thank the person, then add one true detail: the child chose that story at bedtime, the coat fits, or you are looking forward to arranging the outing. Do not claim a child has used a gift just to make the note sound warmer.

The wording below is a starting point. Replace the brackets and remove anything you cannot honestly say. For an experience, distinguish looking forward to it from having already gone. For a group present, recognise everyone’s contribution without publishing what each person paid.

Use Manage → Thank-yous for people who circled

In your own wish book, open Manage and choose Thank-yous. There is a note for each person who circled something. Write or edit the message, save it, then copy that person’s link and send it using your chosen message or email app. Saving a digital note does not automatically email it to the giver.

Worked example: fictional: Auntie Jo circled a storybook and it arrived with her card. The tracker records “storybook / Jo / received”. The parent writes a specific note in Thank-yous, saves it and sends Jo her link. “Sent” is ticked on the paper tracker only after the message is sent.

Wishorium’s “Opened” status is recorded when the giver’s browser opens the note; the server render used for a chat preview does not count. It is not proof that the parcel arrived, that the giver read every word or that they received a physical card. A family member’s own postal address stays hidden from the parent. Optional posted printed cards are paid; this worksheet and the digital-note workflow do not require buying a card.

Keep off-list gifts in the same record

Someone who gave an off-list present may not appear in the app’s list of people who circled. Keep that gift on the worksheet and send an ordinary personal message or card. Do not create a pretend reservation merely to make the record look complete.

Store the finished sheet somewhere private. Cross off follow-ups when resolved. Once you no longer need it, dispose of it rather than leaving family names and gift details on a shared noticeboard.

Your free worksheet and wording

Eight gift records with received, written, sent and follow-up fields. Fill it in locally, then print or save as PDF. This paper record does not sync with a wish book.

Copy and adapt the wording. The blank worksheet opens separately; anything you type into it stays in that browser tab and is lost on reload. It is not sent to Wishorium.

Questions from grown-ups

Does a reserved or circled gift count as received?

No. Tick received only when the actual gift arrives. A circle coordinates a giver’s intention and is not delivery confirmation.

Can I track off-list gifts?

Yes, on the free worksheet. The app’s Thank-yous tab lists people who circled something; use an ordinary personal message for other givers.

Does Wishorium send a digital note automatically?

No. Save the note, then send its link yourself by text, email or your chosen messaging app. Optional posted printed cards are a separate paid service.
